Week 3 & 4 in Pihtipudas
Hello everyone!
I have officially been here in Pihtipudas an entire month. I have officially been halfway across the world from everyone that I know for a whole month now. It is a little hard to digest this sometimes, but it is weird to think that the month has already gone by.
I didn't give an update last week since there wasn't too much to talk about. We have the same schedule weekly, so it is obvious I am doing lots of volleyball, eating, and sleeping here. On the bright side, I found my coffee setup:
We have regular coffee here on the left, some coffee creamer, some brown sugar, and some vanilla powder flavoring.
In these past two weeks, I did take a day trip to Jyväskylä with my roommate Alexis. Jyväskylä is about 1.5 hours south of Pihtipudas. It is one of the larger cities up here in Central Finland. We made the trip down, watched some sand volleyball, and then strolled through the town. It sure was a change being in a bigger city! The weather was pretty warm and the view of the sand volleyball was great. When we were walking through the streets of Jyväskylä, in a way it reminded me of the streets in Milan, Italy (back when I was there in 2016). We stopped to get some food: my first Finnish "burger and fries." I gave it about a 6.5 rating. The burgers that my dad makes and the burgers from Big Orange surpass it! :) Down at the bottom of the blog are some photos of Jyväskylä!
This will be the official 5th week of practice. We started 6v6 2 weeks ago and it is coming together. This upcoming Saturday (August 31st), we have a friendly-home game against Orpo. I am excited to see how the team will look and come together. For a video this week, I asked the girls to introduce themselves by saying their name, where they are from, age, position, and then answer a random question. We are missing one team member still, Salla Karhu. She is currently playing with the Finnish National team so she will not be back for a couple of weeks. The link for the video is below:

If anyone has any questions or any blog/vlog ideas please share them. I want to give an update weekly, but I also don't want it to be the same repetitive "volleyball" talk. :) I miss my people home a lot, so if you have been reaching out and talking with me I appreciate it more than you know!
You are such a great communicator. Thanks for sharing these updates. The photos are especially telling of the beautiful place you're ar.
